Fair people of Oppo I GIVE UP. My shitty old car has broken me and made me hate turning a wrench for now. As soon as it is road worthy again it goes up for sale. That money will be used for part of a down payment on a newer used car. The new one will have less features but it will have the one that matters the most, the ability to consistently drive up and down the road.

Sweet LS400. Too bad the smoke is blocking the view.

I’m surprised, I thought older Tauri were supposed to be very reliable...?

Yup! Transverse V6's SUCK! I’m in the middle of doing the valve cover gaskets on my Maxima, and it took 4 hours get all the intake shit off, and I broke one of the little coolant hoses back there, and another hose that runs between the two valve covers is cracked, and I lost a couple valve cover bolts!
My next car will be a 4-cylinder Toyota, the only kind of car that is suitable to be an only car.

easier to work on too :)

it wants to be a super car soooo bad.
sorry about your luck.......
thats the reason the projects are getting the BIG extinguishers.

Many are. That is unless they have been through an old person, teen girl, my brother, and 231000+ miles. With me bein the fourth owner and apparently the only one that attempts to care for it.

The problem with mine is that once one thing is fixed two pop up. Just this week I had to spend $190 on a new key(admittedly my fault), $150 on two cheap tires(didn't realize how bad the alignment was), $12 on new bleeder screws. Now I cannot get the damned thing to bleed. I'm done.

I told a coworker the other day that I need to find a white trash drug addict to buy my car. It may be drive able once I fix all of the random small crap.

I would much rather have that car. It wasn't built to be disposable.

Been there. It sucks. Time to move on.

Yup! Get a Toyota. How much will you be looking to spend?

you just gotta figure out the end game for it, whether its going to be you that drives it into the ground, or whether you try and get out from underneath it before it goes...... pick yourself a strategy and stick with it.

This is why you can’t dd a project. Your dd should be reliable as fuck or get a new one.

I always choose too late and I'm in it too much. I think I am happy with a decent loss at this point. Plus I don't want the engine to go like the last one.

That’s the problem with being cheap. I guess I’ll have to choose being boring and doing nothing but paying bills and staying at home. At this point that sounds waaaaay better than being intermittently broke, never knowing when it’s coming, and it costing a decent percentage of the car’s value.

Right now? Preferably $10k or less. I'm looking at a 2013 Focus sedan for just that and a 2004 Focus ZX3 for half that.

It so is. This car has destroyed plans for the NAIAS, Cincinnati Aquarium, and now Thunder Over Louisville. I'll take a car where the memories are where it takes me not what I do to it.

Yes, buy a LS400 and have something cool and reliable.

You don't need to be boring, just need to shop smart. Can think of some 80s cars that would be fun for cheap and not kill you on parts.

Yeah, our Sable became way too expensive to keep... Sold it a year too late.

Get a Yaris or Echo, unless you need a sunroof. In that case, get a Fit.
If the 2013 Focus is automatic, stay away! If the 2004 has the Zetec, avoid that too.

If I would have sold mine without doing anything I would have made a profit and had something reliable. I'm an idiot.
![]() 04/23/2016 at 21:22 |

No, I want boring and somewhere in the range of new enough to not need parts and not expensive.
![]() 04/23/2016 at 21:22 |

Lame, hopefully you can find something more reliable! :)

I’m thinking a Ford Focus. I want my mom’s first gen but she isn't budging.

As do I.

Toyota Corolla.

What’s wrong with the Zetecs they put in the Focuses? The only “issue” I could think of is that they had timing belts, which I have since avoided. The ZX2 I had with one was easily the most reliable car I ever owned.

That sound terrible. The next questions are: What year? How much did you pay for it?
Taurii can be bought for a song in most places. Even here, where used cars have the largest and most inexplicable premiums I’ve ever seen, they’re still $3-4k cars. In SoCal you can get ones with under 100k miles with records for under $3k usually with little difficulty.
That’s usually my method for outfitting someone with a sweet reliable ride: Go to CL, limit mileage, limit price, then bump year range until you get the list down to something manageable. Grab a solid runner with a good history from that list and you’ll probably have years on end of nearly carefree driving provided you maintain it properly. For me, this has been cake.

*preferably with a blue oval
Yes I know it is stupid to limit myself like that buuuuutt...
![]() 04/24/2016 at 09:11 |

Honestly, $300. I know how just over $1200 invested in it. Also the “maintain it properly” bit is what’s biting me here. I knew my brother didn’t, I thought for $300 it was still worth it. Twasn’t

TOYOTA. COROLLA.
I'm making a reference. Aren't I just the funniest? Get a v6 mustang then:) seriously my friend has one that's been totaled twice, it's got 150k and all its needed is a clutch.

Based on the price of my current insurance no two doors. I think a Focus may be my best route.
